STANLEY VAN HEERDEN
GENERAL INFORMATION ON MY MISSION AND VISION FOR THE YOUTH
BACKGROUND INFO:
In 1968 I was introduced to the BIBLE- BAND YOUTH MINISTRY.
I eventually became a youth- volunteer , this meant that I had to be
always available to take on any role or perform duties when
needed to do so.Some of these duties was to be a group leader on camps,
or youth club leader in the townships and at school.This was experiential
learning.In 1976 I was eventually selected to be part of a group of young
leaders from the BIBLE BAND to go on a cross-cultural tour to GERMANY.
In 1982 to 1985 I became missions co-ordinator for the BIBLE BAND.
My duties included conducting camps in MAGALIESBERG,DRAKENSBERG,
COASTAL REGIONS for the youth in J.H.B.These experiences moulded me,
shaped and determined my future and destiny.Since 1990 I have been teaching.
MY MISSION TO THE YOUTH OF SOUTH AFRICA:
My aim is to reach the youth in our communities through various means.
One of these is through camping.My VISION is to empower the youth to
become responsible,productive and mature leaders of our communities,
armed with a christian ethos as born again desciples of our LORD AND
SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST.`
The camping ministry is quite a unique experience,it is EXPERIENTIAL
LEARNING to pause…reflect,with nature,the environment,the mountains,
rivers,trees,birds,flowers,animals,stars,clouds,moon,sun,rain,cold,warmth,people and GOD
forming A COMPLETE,EXPANDED,TRANSCENDING ,FULL EXPERIENCE OF SELF DISCOVERY, A SORT OF SPIRITUAL JOURNEY IN WHICH THE WHOLE PERSON is involved,the physical,the emotions,the senses,the mental the soul and spirit in a LASTING SPIRITUAL ADVENTURE WITH A SENSE OF WONDER WHICH INEVITABLY LEADS TO A RE-EXAMINATION ,CONFRONTATION OF ONES PRIORITIES,GOALS,VALUES,DESTINY AND PURPOSE IN LIFE,IN RELATION TO SOCIETY,ONESELF,PEOPLE AND GOD.It is indeed the total experience,the ultimate sense
of being, of empowerment and completeness .The camping experience provides a person with the opportunity to detach oneself with the normal hustle and bustle of daily chores and activities,
and provides a space for new discoveries and a wonderfull occasion to make lasting and profound connections with other,people,nature, oneself and GOD which in turn must impact with new
thoughts,visions,insights and a wider perspective of issues and life.
Inorder to make the above a reality for all campers,my camps will be value driven,
Highly ethical,safe,well planned,organised ,well managed and co-ordinated yet inspiring.
The camp program will be intrinsically linked with CHARACTER BUILDING,LEADERSHIP TRAINING ,ENVIRONMENTAL AND AND SPIRITUAL AWARENESS PROGRAM.
Each camper will be required to keep a daily journal,read the bible daily,pray daily,and
Have quite time at least twice a day, share his/her experiences around a campfire,
Participate in general discussions in groups and perform one or the other duty
or carry out some task individually or in a team,to make an attempt to contribute
to a positive,happy and adventerious journey for all campers.
LONG TERM AIMS AND OUTCOMES:
-DEVELOP LEADERS WITH MORAL ENTEGRITY
-PROVIDE YOUTH:- WITH ENTREPRENEURAL,CAREER SKILL,
-CROSS CULTURAL MISSIONARY SKILLS,-RESEARCH SKILLS,PROJECT MANAGEMENT SKILLS,
-SCHOLARSHIPS AND FUNDING
STRATEGIG PARTNERSHIPS /NETWORKING WITH:
THE WILDERNESS LEADERSHIP SCHOOL,BIBLE BAND ,M.O.V.E.D,VARIOUS CHURCHES,MOUNTAIN CLUB OF S.A,. CHRISTIAN CAMPING MINISTRIES IN S.A.GOVERNMENT AGENCIES(E.G GUATENG ENTTREPRENEURAL PROPELLER),BIG BUSSINESS, T.A.G (TOGETHER AGAINST CRIME)
